Former President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Tuesday to temporarily block a federal appeals court ruling that allowed the Justice Department to review documents marked as classified that were recovered from the former president’s Florida estate.
In an emergency appeal, Trump’s legal team urged the high court to lift an order from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, which last month allowed the Justice Department to carry on with part of its review of the materials seized by the FBI from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in August. He urged the high court to allow a court-appointed third party to review the documents bearing classified markings, perhaps rather than the Justice Department.
